Food Art group exhibition

Starting off a busy week here with a post I’ve been looking forward to making. A few months back my daughter Jaina (age 7) decided she wanted to post a project asking people to make faces (or any kind of sculpture) with food. Everything about this project has made me smile, from her idea, to her enthusiasm for the project, to the images she drew to announce Food Art, to the silly faces that appeared in my in box when those of you who obliged sent an email with your creations. I’ve had a great time watching this all come to fruition (semi pun intended!) Right now J is falling asleep knowing I’m putting this post together so that it will appear tomorrow morning (today by the time it’s live) when she wakes up, and I think she’s pretty excited to see what it’s all going to look like.

On her behalf, thanks to those who played along: Andrea, Betsy, Little B, Genie, Mia, J, myself, and especially Noona, Denholm and Dylan who, despite Noona and her younger son Denholm being very sick, forged ahead and found the energy to make silly faces and other food-esque inventions. I am also aware there were several other food art making sessions that took place that ended up devolving into strange and extremely messy concoctions. Nothing was recorded of theses events, but I am pleased as punch because I know much fun was had by all. For those that did document their constructions with edibles, we’ve got a fairground ride, a Brioche Beasty, a Caramel Cow, a Polynesian ‘Mater Bear, artistic Eggplants, Eggheads, Earthwormdirtart, four yellow on the inside foodie faces, a Superfast Jellyfish cookie and several other food sculpture faces to entertain you on this first day of Spring.

A Very Peculiar exhibit!

Hello from a foggy brain on this cold and crisp Friday afternoon. I’m writing this as I have my first cup of coffee late in the day, after a looong night up with two sick kids. It kinda threw us all for a loop. I’m awake now (sort of) somehow, and it’s pretty appropriate that I make this post in the midst of the fog-brain, because if my writing is peculiar, then it’s actually perfect.

I’m really excited about sharing this group of images, they are wildly varied in subject matter and media, and are all truly 100%ly very peculiar! I love it. The submissions are all from the younger set (no one over 14), save for an image each from myself and my sister and I’m not telling how old we are. It’s really great to see young’uns getting more involved in the blog projects, they are the ones that inspire most with their uncensored thought processes and willingness to take ideas to their fullest potential. Thank you to my nephew Kincaid for concocting this project for us. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!
